FALL 2008 SEASON SIGN-UP!!
VOLUNTEERS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF KILLEN AYSO SOCCER LEAGUE!!
There are no paid members in the AYSO soccer family. Every league official you see (registration personnel, board members, coaches,
referees, field maintenance people) is a parent or youth volunteer. Please consider donating your time to volunteer and help out the
league. Even if you have no knowledge of soccer, we can use your help. Let us know at registration if you'd like to contribute, or
talk to any of the contacts in the links above for further information. Here's some opportunities for you to help out:
-
Coaches
- Assistant coaches
- Referees
- Assistant referees
- Team parents
- Water jug fillers on game days
-
Age division coordinators
- Coach administrator
- Field set up and upkeep
It's that time again! Drop by Killen Park at Shelter #2 to sign up your kids for the fall season. Registration days will be July 12,
19, and 26 from 10 am to 2 pm. The Florence Pilot region will be holding sign-ups at the same time at the North Florence
soccer field (see Maps).
The fee this season will be $50, and will include a full uniform (jersey, shorts, and socks).
Practices will begin in early August, with games to start the Saturday after Labor Day. Hit the contact link and shoot one of us an
email if you would like additional information on the upcoming season.
Sign up handouts can be found here for printing.
British Soccer Camps are done, dude!
We had another great soccer camp this summer, this time put on by Challenger Sports "British Soccer Camps". Thanks to all
board members who came out day after day to make sure the kids were hydrated, fed, and ready to run. Special thanks to
Tim Rhodes and Steak N Stuff for cooking up hamburgers every day for lunch for players, coaches, and volunteers. Hit the logo
to see what Steak N Stuff is all about, and drop by to show your appreciation for their support of our soccer league. Pics of
the camp can be found by clicking here or here!
VOLUNTEER REFEREES NEEDED!!!
AYSO Killen is critically short on volunteers right now. The current roster of parents and young adults that are willing to donate
their time for refereeing Saturday games is so short that many of us have to ref several games, in addition to our regular coaching
duties. Please consider donating an extra hour before or after your child's game to referee or assistant referee a game.
A one day
class is all that is required to become qualified as an AYSO referee. Not to worry, even if you haven't even played before, many of
our referees are first timers as well. The training class will cover all the rules, and we'll have a practice game after training
class so that everyone can give it a try in a real refereeing environment. After that, you can assistant referee and work with a mentor
referee until you are comfortable enough to call a game on your own.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the sport your
child is playing and to give back to your community. We all need to chip in to ensure our children have a safe and fair environment
in which to play and have fun.
Referee class will be held 9am to 3pm on August 16 at shelter 2 in Killen Park. Please let your coach
know if you plan to attend or email the referee coordinator so that we can have enough literature to hand out.
